The Sand Springs Photography Club was organized in September of 2007. I had thought of a local club for anyone who had a love for photography, whether a beginner or a seasoned pro. We learn not only about composition, exposure and framing of pictures, but we also have classes about post processing of photos in Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. It is a casual atmosphere and there are no fees or charges to be a member. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 at Cathedral of Praise Church. We do not meet in the month of December or April.
We are in the process of planning some outings for the upcoming spring and summer of 2009. We have started a monthly photo contest. There will be a different category each month. The photos will be posted throughout the month and then at the end of the month I will accept nominations for the photo of the month, tally up the results and post the picture with most votes. The winner will be notified and their picture will be placed on a special page with photos of the month. And that is not all, there will also be a prize to go along with the title. We are pleased to announce that our photo of the month sponsor will be Rib Crib of Sand Springs. The winner will receive a gift certificate to Rib Crib of Sand Springs. A special thanks to Rib Crib for making this possible.
In 2006 I started the Sand Springs Photo Fair. It is a once a year event that allows local photographers to showcase their talents and compete for ribbons. It is completely free of charge to enter and is underwritten by our many sponsors. We even have categories for elementary, middle school and high school, young photographers. There has been a scholarship awarded to a graduating senior as well. We also have a day of workshops available. Some of the classes we have offered have been “how to take a better picture”, “digital photography”, and “Photoshop”.
